Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Not reported by our sources; expect patchy mobile signal below the fort.
- Last ATM
- Igatpuri
- Nearest hospital
- Rural Hospital, Igatpuri (about 7-10 km from Tringalwadi village)
- Water
- Durgbharari describes one rock-cut cistern on the fort as the only year-round drinking-water source; most other tanks are dry or silted. Operators advise carrying 2-3 litres.
Highlights
- Rock-cut Jain caves (Pandavleni) at the foot of the fort, with a pillared hall and a shrine of Rishabhanatha
- A narrow stair of rock-cut steps leading to the western (Konkan) gate, with a murti of Bhagwan Hanuman and two Sharabha carvings on the gate
- The small domed Bhavani Mata temple on the fort top, with murtis of Bhavani, Ganesh and Bhairav
- Views over Tringalwadi reservoir, the Thal Ghat and nearby forts such as Kavnai
- Short enough for a night trek with a sunrise from the top
Risks
- The final approach to the western gate is a narrow gully of worn rock-cut steps; it is slippery in rain, so wear shoes with good grip and go one at a time.
- Durgbharari reports fallen boulders on the path beyond the Konkan gate and a collapsed eastern gate; watch footing on the descent.
- Monsoon cloud and rain make the mud paths through the fields and along the reservoir slippery.
- No order closing Tringalwadi was found, but Nashik district has restricted entry to some forts and waterfalls in heavy monsoon spells; check locally before a monsoon visit.
- Incredible India says camping inside the fort walls needs permission; it does not say from whom, so ask locally.
- There are no toilets or shops on the trail; carry water and food.

Questions
How long does the Tringalwadi Fort trek take?
The climb takes 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the source: a trip report gives 30-45 minutes, Treks and Trails India allows 1 to 1.5 hours. Durgbharari puts a full tour of the fort at about 2 hours, so plan 3-4 hours from the village and back.
Is Tringalwadi Fort good for beginners?
Yes. Operators rate it easy to medium, and Wikipedia calls the climb very easy. Only the final rock-cut steps to the gate are steep and need care when wet.
Where does the Tringalwadi trek start?
From Tringalwadi village, about 7 km from Igatpuri. Durgbharari names the Talyachi Wadi hamlet as the nearest start: walk about 20 minutes along the tank bund to the Jain caves, then climb to the plateau and the western gate.
What is the best time to visit Tringalwadi Fort?
Incredible India recommends November to February for clear, pleasant weather. Operators also run it from the monsoon onwards (June to February), when the hills are green but the steps are slippery.
Is there water on Tringalwadi Fort?
One rock-cut cistern holds drinking water all year according to Durgbharari, but most tanks are dry. Carry 2-3 litres from the village.
