Questions

Can beginners do the Kaiwara Betta trek?

Yes. It is about 4 km return and 2-3 hours of easy-moderate walking, with one short steep rocky patch. Indiahikes calls it one of the best treks near Bengaluru to take children on.

Do I need a permit for Kaiwara Betta?

Yes. Book online on the Karnataka Forest Department's Aranya Vihaara website (Chikkaballapur district treks) and sign in at the forest gate at Kaiwara Tapovana. Operators ask for a government photo ID for the permit. We could not confirm the current fee from an official source.

Is a guide mandatory?

No. Once you have the online permit you can do the trek on your own. Guided day trips from Bengaluru include transport, breakfast and the permit.

How do I reach Kaiwara Betta by public transport?

KSRTC buses run about every hour from Majestic or Tin Factory in Bengaluru towards Chintamani and pass Kaiwara Cross. From there the trailhead at Kaiwara Tapovana is about 4.4 km; an auto costs ₹100-200.

When is the best time for Kaiwara Betta?

November to March, when it is cool and clear. Summers are hot with little shade, so go for sunrise. The forest department closes bookings in the monsoon (16 May-31 Aug in 2026).
