Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Mobile signal is weak or absent near the falls, according to Trekhievers; make calls before leaving the village.
- Last ATM
- Mahad, about 25 km from the base village; carry cash for parking and village meals.
- Nearest hospital
- Mahad for first care; Mumbai or Pune for serious cases.
- Water
- Seasonal streams cross the forest trail in the monsoon, but there are no shops on the trail. Carry 2-3 litres and treat any stream water.
Highlights
- A single drop of about 400 feet (operators quote 400-410 ft) down a sheer basalt cliff into a deep blue-green pool
- A short trail through dense monsoon forest with stream crossings, about an hour from the base village
- Strong wind at the cliff can blow the spray back upwards, the 'reverse waterfall' effect described by Treks and Trails India
- Most groups add the nearby Satsada Waterfall on the same day
Risks
- The pool below the falls is deep and currents are strong in the monsoon; organised groups do not allow swimming or diving in it.
- Mud, wet rocks and seasonal stream crossings make the trail slippery in the rains, and heavy rain can make streams rise quickly. Turn back if the water is rising.
- Leeches are common on the forest trail in the monsoon; wear long socks and carry repellent.
- We found no 2026 prohibitory order (Section 163 BNSS) naming Nanemachi, and operators ran batches from June to October 2026. Raigad district has banned entry to other waterfalls such as Devkund in past monsoons, so check with Mahad police or the tehsil office before you go.
- Outside the monsoon (about November to May) the falls carry little or no water; Treks and Trails India and Mischief Treks run it only as a monsoon trek.

Questions
How long is the Nanemachi Waterfall trek?
Operators quote different figures. Treks and Trails India gives 3 to 4 km round trip, about an hour each way from the base village. Trekhievers lists the core jungle trail at about 1.7 km, plus a walk of up to 2 km if the bus cannot reach the trailhead. Adventure Club Pune quotes 8-10 km, which probably includes the approach walk and the Satsada Waterfall visit.
How tall is Nanemachi Waterfall?
Operators describe it as about 400 to 410 feet high, dropping down a forested rock face into a deep pool.
When is the best time to visit Nanemachi Waterfall?
July to September gives the strongest flow. June and October depend on that year's rainfall, and outside the monsoon the falls have little or no water.
Can you swim at Nanemachi Waterfall?
No. Treks and Trails India, Trekhievers and other organisers do not allow swimming or diving because the pool is deep and currents are strong during the monsoon.
Is there an entry fee for Nanemachi Waterfall?
Treks and Trails India says there is no formal entry ticket, but locals may charge a small parking fee. Other operators include 'forest charges' or 'entry fees' in their packages. We could not find an official fee, so check locally.
