A short half-day climb of about 350 m from the Waghoba temple on a steep, mostly well-marked forest path; operators grade it medium, and one rock stretch needs care when wet in the monsoon.

Not confirmed by our sources; the trailhead is about 7 km from Palghar town on a main road, but expect patchy signal on the forested hill.

Water
A hand pump behind the Waghoba temple at the start. The cisterns on the fort hold water only in and just after the monsoon and are not fit to drink, so carry all the water you need.

Highlights

  • A rectangular rock crown that splits the fort into an upper and a lower part, visible from far across the Palghar plain
  • Views west to Palghar and the Arabian Sea and east to the Surya river on clear days
  • Rock-cut cisterns on the plateau and on the top, with a tent-sized flat near the northern cistern
  • An easy half-day outing from Mumbai by local train, starting beside the Waghoba temple at the pass

Risks

  • One stretch of rock face near the top becomes slippery in the monsoon; take it slowly or avoid it in heavy rain.
  • The path is steep and the top is bare with little shade; in April-May the heat makes the climb hard, and operators advise against summer.
  • There is no drinking water on the fort, and in the monsoon fog and strong wind on the top can be dangerous.
  • There are no signs or ramparts marking the fort, and no public bus waits at the base on the return, so plan your ride back.

Questions

Where does the Kaldurg trek start?

At Waghoba Khind, the pass on the Palghar-Manor road about 7 km east of Palghar station and 14 km from Manor on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Stone steps near the hand pump behind the Waghoba temple mark the start of the path.

How long does the Kaldurg climb take, and how high is the fort?

About 1.5 to 2 hours up from Waghoba Khind, so the round trip fits in half a day. Sources give the height as roughly 1,500 to 1,558 ft; Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap give 475 m.

How do I reach Kaldurg from Mumbai?

Take a Western Railway local or mail train to Palghar, walk about 15 minutes to the bus stand, and take any bus towards Manor or Wada; get down at Waghoba Khind. By car it is about 2 to 2.5 hours from central Mumbai.

Is Kaldurg suitable for beginners and children?

Yes, in fair weather. Operators grade it medium, and a trip report calls it a short climb suited to groups with children; the only tricky part is one rock stretch that is slippery in the monsoon.

Is there water on Kaldurg Fort?

Not drinkable water. The fort has rock-cut cisterns, but they hold water only in and just after the monsoon and are not fit to drink. Fill up at the hand pump behind the Waghoba temple before you start.
