Guided: Treks and Trails India lists Rs 1,499 per person ex-Kasara (jeep Kasara–Hatti–Kasara, breakfast, lunch, trek leader), but showed no open departures when checked; no second operator price was found, so the upper end is an estimate. Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Weak at Hatti; Indiahikes reports intermittent BSNL and Vodafone signal on the plateaus.
- Last ATM
- Dhodambe or Pimpalgaon on the highway; Nashik is the most reliable.
- Nearest hospital
- Pimpalgaon Baswant (about 30 km), with larger hospitals in Nashik (about 60 km).
- Water
- Fill up in Hatti; Indiahikes reports a potable source on Sonar Machi and a reservoir on the top plateau (the stepwell water is not potable). Purify stream water.
Highlights
- Maharashtra's second-highest hill fort, with views of Saptashrungi, Markandeya, Ravlya–Javlya, Kanchana–Manchana and the Ikhara pinnacle
- The striking natural cleft (a volcanic dike) that gives Dhodap its cut-out shape
- Sonar Machi plateau with arched gateways, a two-storey stepwell and a small settlement
- Rock-cut caves, water tanks, Farsi inscriptions and shrines of Bhagwan Hanuman, Bhagwan Shiva and Bhagwan Ganesh
- Camping on the top plateau for sunrise behind Ikhara and clear night skies in winter
Risks
- Rock-cut steps, an iron ladder and a railed traverse to the third plateau become slippery in the monsoon; take extra care there.
- The final pinnacle needs ropes and technical climbing; do not attempt it without gear and training.
- Monsoon rain and fog: Nashik district authorities have restricted some forts during heavy rain in recent years (no order naming Dhodap was found); check locally before a monsoon visit.
- Public transport to Hatti is sparse; plan the last-mile jeep or your own vehicle in advance.
- Little shade on the lower slopes; carry at least 2 litres of water in summer.
