Himalayan Hikers and Himalaya Shelter grade it easy: a short walk on a clear village and forest path with no technical sections. It is not flat, though. The climb above Kutla to Buddhaban is steep in places and gains about 800 m from Barshaini, and one 2026 guide rates the Kutla–Buddhaban walk moderate.

Cost
Self-guided
₹800–3,000
With an operator
₹1,000–3,755
Per person, ex-Kasol. Guided prices seen October 2026: Himalayan Hikers charges ₹3,500 + 5% GST + ₹80 insurance from Kasol to Kasol, with a tent night at Buddhaban. Thrillophilia lists ₹1,000 including tax, but that package only walks from Tosh Parking to Tosh village and stays in a hotel there. Self-guided is our estimate: the Kasol–Barshaini bus or jeep, a night in a Tosh or Kutla guesthouse or a camp, and food.

Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Jio, Airtel and BSNL work in Kasol. BSNL may give an unreliable 2G/3G signal in Tosh, and beyond Tosh (Kutla, the waterfall, Buddhaban) there is usually no signal (Himalayan Hikers).
- Last ATM
- Kasol (carry cash for Tosh and Kutla)
- Nearest hospital
- Primary Health Centre Kasol and a civil hospital at Manikaran for first care; Regional Hospital Kullu for serious cases
- Water
- The trail follows the Tosh river with side streams and a waterfall, and Buddhaban has a spring; boil or treat all water.
Highlights
- Tosh village, with its old wooden houses and the Jamadagni Rishi temple
- The Kutla meadows and the Tosh waterfall on the way up the valley
- A night at Buddhaban, a large meadow with a spring and big boulders beside the Tosh river
- Snow peaks at the head of the Tosh valley and views back over the Parvati valley
Risks
- There are short steep climbs near Kutla and on the last stretch before Buddhaban. The ground is rocky and uneven in places.
- In the monsoon (July–August) trails turn muddy and slippery, there are leeches, and landslides are more likely. The Ghatigarh stretch of the Manikaran–Barshaini road was briefly closed by slides in February, July and August 2026, so check the road before you drive up.
- In winter (about December to February) Tosh and the trail above it are under snow and ice, and some paths may be hard to follow.
- Above Tosh there is no reliable mobile signal; tell someone your plan before you set out.
- The trail beyond Tosh has few signs and many forks; ask locals and start early.

Questions
How long is the Tosh Valley trek?
Himalayan Hikers runs it as a 2-day, roughly 14 km round trip: about 7 km from Barshaini through Tosh village, the Kutla meadows and the Tosh waterfall to the Buddhaban campsite, and the same way back. Shorter packages sold under the same name only walk from Barshaini or Tosh Parking to Tosh village, about 3 km each way.
How high does the Tosh Valley trek go?
Tosh village is about 2,400 m (7,874 ft). Packages that continue to Buddhaban reach about 3,020 m (9,908 ft), the figure Himalayan Hikers and another operator's itinerary give for that camp.
Is the Tosh Valley trek suitable for beginners?
Yes. Operators grade it easy and say it suits beginners and families with basic fitness. There is no technical ground, but a few steep pitches above Kutla make the last part harder, and it is tougher in monsoon rain or winter snow.
What is the best time for the Tosh Valley trek?
April to June and September to October. Himalayan Hikers recommends April to October and calls autumn ideal; a 2026 guide suggests May–June and September–October for Kutla and Buddhaban. July and August are wet and slippery, and from about late November to February the area is under snow.
Do I need a permit for the Tosh Valley trek?
We could not find a current official permit or camping fee for this route. Operators include any forest permits in their price. If you go on your own, check with the forest office or the police at Kasol or Manikaran before camping above Tosh.
