A climb of about 750 m over roughly 7 km each way from the plains at Kushivali, through forest, stream crossings and rock-cut steps to the Dadi Maa plateau; a GPS trail log and a trek guide both rate the Tahuli/Tavli climb 'difficult'. The three rock pinnacles beyond the plateau need technical climbing and are not part of this trek.

Cost
Self-guided
₹150–500
With an operator
₹800–1,500
Per person, ex-Kalyan. Self-guided is an estimate: local train to Kalyan, KDMT bus or shared rickshaw to Kushivali, and your own food and water. Treks and Trails India (treksandtrails.org, not connected to this site) lists the Tahuli Peak trek at ₹800 for one day, inclusions not stated; we found no second operator price, so the upper guided figure is our estimate for a Mumbai trek group with transport and should be checked.

Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Mobile signal is usually available at Kushivali and on the open slopes facing Kalyan; expect gaps in the forest and behind the ridge.
- Last ATM
- Kalyan (carry cash for the bus and village shops)
- Nearest hospital
- Kalyan and Ambernath hospitals; Thane or Mumbai for serious cases
- Water
- Streams and small waterfalls run on the way up in and after the monsoon but dry up in summer; one guide says that in the dry season water is found only at the top. Carry at least 3 litres and treat any stream water.
Highlights
- A quiet, little-visited mountain directly facing Malanggad, between Kalyan, Ambernath and Badlapur
- A small Shiva temple on the way up, overlooked by the Bamnya (Brahman) pinnacle
- Rock-cut steps beside a waterfall, with a railing and a cottage above it, leading to the top
- The Dadi Maa plateau on top, with the Ek Pir, Teen Pir and Panch Pir shrines and a few houses
- Close views of the three Tahuli rock pinnacles and wide views over the Ulhas river, Badlapur, Malanggad, Chanderi and the Matheran range
Risks
- The Badlapur/Mohpada routes run through dense forest with confusing trails; guides warn that hikers get lost, especially in mist. Use the marked Kushivali trail, start early, and carry a GPS track.
- In the monsoon the rock patches and steps become slippery and the forest is mosquito-infested; streams can rise fast after heavy rain.
- The three pinnacles (including the ones called Daood and Baman) are technical rock climbs; do not attempt them without ropes and an experienced climbing team.
- Snakes may hide in the wild banana thickets on the ridges; watch where you step.
- There is no official trail management; check locally for any district monsoon orders on waterfalls and hills before you go.

Questions
How do I reach the Tahuli trek base from Mumbai?
Take a local train to Kalyan, then KDMT bus no. 45 from the Kalyan ST depot towards Malanggad (about every 40 minutes) and get down at Kushivali, the second-last stop. The trail from Kushivali is marked to the top.
How long does the Tahuli trek take?
About 2.5–3 hours up from Kushivali to the top, according to trek guides, so allow 6–7 hours for the round trip with breaks. The Badlapur–Mohpada route is much longer: 18–20 km and 11–12 hours.
Is Tahuli the same as Tavli?
Yes. Tahuli and Tavli are two spellings for the same mountain with three rock pinnacles near Badlapur and Ambernath. Guides use 'Tavli' for the Badlapur-side routes and 'Tahuli' for the Kushivali route to the Dadi Maa plateau.
Is Tahuli a fort?
No. Tahuli is often taken for a fort, but it is a mountain with rock pinnacles and a plateau on top called Dadi Maa, where there are small pir shrines.
When is the best time for the Tahuli trek?
One operator recommends July, when the streams are full. The trail is also good from September to February. In the monsoon, rock patches get slippery and route-finding is harder in mist, so go with someone who knows the trail.
