Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Patchy on the Tamhini plateau and weak to absent in the forest; operators advise a power bank and offline maps.
- Last ATM
- Paud or Pirangut; carry cash for the entry fee, parking and village meals.
- Nearest hospital
- Paud for first care; Pune for anything serious.
- Water
- Seasonal streams cross the trail in the monsoon; there are no shops on the trail. Carry 1-2 litres and treat stream water.
Highlights
- Looks down on Devkund Waterfall from the cliff top instead of from the Bhira gorge below
- Views over Plus Valley, the Kundalika valley and Bhira Dam
- Seasonal Ring Waterfall and streams along an old pass that once linked the Mulshi plateau with the Konkan
- Forest of the Tamhini Wildlife Sanctuary, close to Pune for a one-day trip
Risks
- Road access, 2026: heavy rain washed away a stretch of NH 753F between Dongarwadi and Nive on 5 July 2026 - the stretch where this trek starts. Pune district shut the Tamhini Ghat road to all traffic 'until further orders' and barred tourists from the ghat section; as of early August 2026 no reopening order had been issued. Operators list October 2026 batches, but confirm the road is open with Paud police or your operator before you set out.
- Raigad district closed several Tamhini Wildlife Sanctuary routes from 1 July to 30 September 2026 (Kondhwal, Chondi-Khopiwali, Nhani, Subhedar, Ghongal Ghat, Shidi Ghat). Savlya Ghat was not on the reported list, but monsoon orders change yearly; check before a monsoon visit.
- The trail is very slippery in the monsoon on wet rock and moss; operators do not allow sandals or floaters.
- The viewpoint is an unfenced cliff edge above the Devkund gorge; stay back from the edge, especially in fog and wind.
- Streams rise fast in heavy rain; do not cross a stream that is rising. Leeches are common after rain.
- Do not try to climb down from the viewpoint to Devkund: the falls are under a magistrate's ban every monsoon and people have drowned there.

Questions
How long is the Savlya Ghat trek?
About 3 km one way to the viewpoint, roughly 6 km return (Adventure Club Pune quotes 6-8 km depending on route). Reaching the viewpoint takes 40 minutes to 2 hours; the whole walk is a 4-6 hour outing.
Is the Savlya Ghat trek good for beginners?
Yes. Operators rate it easy and take beginners and families. The hard part is the slippery monsoon descent, so wear shoes with a deep grip.
When is the best time for Savlya Ghat?
Operators recommend the monsoon, June to September, when Devkund and the other falls are full, and they also run batches in October. Check the Tamhini road status first: it was closed after a washout in July 2026.
Is there an entry fee at Savlya Ghat?
Treks and Trails India says a nominal entry fee of about ₹50 per person is collected at a local counter near the trailhead, plus a small parking fee paid to the village. Guided trips include these charges. Confirm the current rate on the spot.
Can you see Devkund Waterfall from Savlya Ghat?
Yes. The viewpoint looks down on the top of Devkund Waterfall, Plus Valley and the Kundalika valley; afternoon fog often hides the view, so start early.
