Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Not confirmed; expect weak or no signal in Kumshet and on the mountain
- Last ATM
- Rajur or Kasara; carry cash, as no ATM at Kumshet is confirmed
- Nearest hospital
- Rajur; confirm the nearest rural hospital locally before the trek
- Water
- No water source on the trail is confirmed; carry at least 2–3 litres from Kumshet, as the mountain has no tree cover
Highlights
- Remote, little-visited peak of about 1,408 m between Ratangad and Harishchandragad
- Open summit with what the operator calls the biggest rock exposure in the Sahyadri
- Wide views: Harishchandragad, Kunjargad and Naphta to the south, Ajoba to the west, Muda and Ghanchakkar to the east, Ratangad, Alang, Madan, Kulang and Kalsubai to the north
- Kumshet village, the stopover on the Ratangad–Harishchandragad range trek, which crosses the Katrabai col
Risks
- The mountain has no tree cover: strong wind, sun exposure in the dry months and cold nights, even in May, on the open top
- Exposed rock near the summit becomes slippery in rain and fog; the route is little used and not marked, so take a local guide from Kumshet
- The area is part of the Kalsubai-Harishchandragad sanctuary landscape. In 2025 the Forest Department closed nearby Kalsubai, Ratangad and Alang-Madan-Kulang until 10 August; check with the Rajur/Bhandardara forest office for the current year's monsoon order before going
- Remote base: public buses are scarce and you depend on private vehicles or shared jeeps from Rajur, so plan the return before dark
