Risks
- Heavy snow in winter (about December to March) makes the pass hard or impossible to cross; Travelsetu says winter makes the trek difficult.
- July-August monsoon rain brings landslides on the roads to Bathad and Sarahan and slippery forest trail; sources say to avoid these months.
- There is no shelter at the pass; you must carry a tent or go with a local guide or operator who camps below it.
- The trail is little used and paths branch near villages; a local guide is recommended.
- Camping and forest rules can change; ask the Forest Department or police at Banjar about current camping permission before going.
