Cost

With an operator

₹1,800–3,500

Per person, ex-Mussoorie (meeting point Suwakholi; transport not included). Guided prices published October 2026: EPH India's Top Tibba day hike from about US$32 on Travelocity and €36 on Expedia (about ₹2,700-3,500); a second Viator-listed 'Top Tibba Day Hike and Dhanaulti Visit' from about US$21 (about ₹1,800). Self-guided is an estimate: a shared or private taxi between Mussoorie and Suwakholi, water and food. A local guide is advised because parts of the trail are not well marked.

Highlights

  • Summit views of the snow peaks to the north, including Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini, and of the valleys below
  • Quiet oak, rhododendron and pine forest with far fewer walkers than the trails around Mussoorie town
  • Birds of prey such as eagles, kites and buzzards, and forest wildlife such as barking deer and kalij pheasant for quiet walkers
  • A half-day outing from Mussoorie: about 12 km by road to Suwakholi, then a 3-4 hour climb and return

Risks

  • Parts of the trail are not well marked; go with a local guide or carry an offline map.
  • Himalaya Shelter advises avoiding December-February, when snow can block the trail, and the July-August monsoon, when rain and landslides are a risk.
  • Weather changes fast on the ridge: fog, rain and hail can cut visibility, so carry a rain layer and a warm layer.
  • Leopards and black bears live in these forests; keep to the trail in daylight and walk in a group.
