Cost
Self-guided
₹1,500–3,500
With an operator
₹3,000–7,000
Per person, ex-Barot. No operator sells this crossing as a package (Indiahikes only documents it), so both ranges are our estimates: self-guided covers the bus from Barot to Lohardi and back from Kothi Kohar, food and a village homestay night; 'guided' means hiring a local guide from Lohardi or Kothi Kohar for the day, split across a small group. Check locally.

Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Not confirmed. Expect signal in the road-head villages at best and none on the pass.
- Last ATM
- Not confirmed; carry cash from Joginder Nagar or Barot.
- Nearest hospital
- A Primary Health Centre at Kothi Kohar (OpenStreetMap); Joginder Nagar and Mandi for serious cases.
- Water
- Streams on both sides (Lama Dugh side and the Uhl valley); little water near the top in late season. Treat all water.
Highlights
- A quiet, rarely used Dhauladhar pass linking two Chhota Bhangal valleys, the Lama Dugh and the Uhl
- Village trail past Cherna, Kothi Swar and the view across to Poling village
- Rhododendron forest and Himalayan herbs below a small shepherds' temple at the base of the pass
- From Kothi Kohar, onward routes to Bir-Billing over Chinna Pass or to Bara Bhangal over Thamsar Pass
Risks
- Kangra: on 6 January 2026 the Kangra District Disaster Management Authority banned trekking above 3,000 m until further notice (PTI), and trekkers must register at Kangra check posts; Nohra Jot (about 3,233 m) is above that height. We found no order lifting it — confirm with the Kangra district administration before you go.
- The upper trail is unmarked and rarely used; go with a local guide. Indiahikes' writer lost the trail on the Uhl side and reached Kothi Kohar after dark.
- In April the writer found 4-6 feet of snow on top and a long snowfield on the far side; spring snow makes route-finding and the descent dangerous.
- Sudden snowfall can stop a party below the pass; the only shelter is a shepherds' hut by the temple at its base.
- Steep climb of about 900 m in under 4 km below the pass, and a long day overall; carry a head torch.

Questions
Where does the Nohra Jot trek start and end?
Indiahikes describes it starting at Luhardi (Lohardi) village across the Lama Dugh stream, passing Cherna and Kothi Swar, crossing Nohra Jot and coming down to the Uhl river at Kothi Kohar. It can also be walked the other way, from Kothi Kohar.
How high is Nohra Jot?
About 3,233 m on the Isomaps route profile, which also matches satellite terrain at the pass (about 3,250 m). Lohardi is at about 2,020 m and Kothi Kohar about 2,340 m.
How long does the crossing take?
It is a one-day crossing of about 11 km on the Isomaps track, with roughly 1,300 m of climbing and 1,600 m of descent. Plan a full day of 8-10 hours and start early.
Is Nohra Jot hard?
Yes. Indiahikes grades it difficult: the altitude is modest, but the trail is unmarked and rarely used, and snow on the pass in spring makes it much harder. Hire a local guide.
How do I get to the trailhead?
Reach Barot from Joginder Nagar or Mandi. Indiahikes notes that buses run between Barot, Luhardi and Kothi Kohar, so both ends of the trail are on a road.
