With an operator
₹2,600–2,800
Per person, ex-Pachmarhi. Only one operator publishes a Duchess Fall price: Universal Adventures, ₹2,600 (listed down from ₹2,800) for a 1-night, 2-day trek with tent stay, meals and guide. The day-visit figure is an estimate: StayVista (June 2026, flagged by them as unverified) gives about ₹600-1,000 per person for the Bison Lodge forest permit plus ₹2,500-4,000 per gypsy shared by up to six people; Trawell lists ₹660 per person without and ₹960 with a guide for the combined sightseeing entry. Several guides say a guide is mandatory for this fall, so budget for one.

Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Mobile network is unreliable inside the forest zone; expect signal only in Pachmarhi town.
- Last ATM
- Pachmarhi town; carry cash for the permit, gypsy and guide
- Nearest hospital
- Pachmarhi for first care; Pipariya or Narmadapuram for serious cases (confirm locally)
- Water
- No facilities at the fall; carry your own water and snacks from Pachmarhi. The stream and pools at the base are not safe to drink untreated.
Highlights
- A roughly 100 m fall that splits into three cascades, ending in shallow pools at the base of the first drop
- A quiet forest trail through sal forest and rock formations inside the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve, far from the busier Bee Fall crowds
- Called the most rewarding and most physically demanding waterfall walk in Pachmarhi
- Can be combined with Rajat Prapat, Bee Fall and Apsara Vihar on a one-day permit gypsy circuit
Risks
- Steep, rocky descent of about 4 km that has to be climbed back; not advised for young children, people over about 60 or anyone with low stamina.
- Mud and slippery rocks in July-September; one guide says forest authorities may restrict access in heavy monsoon or during high wildlife movement.
- Strong flow and uneven rock beds make swimming unsafe after heavy rain.
- Forest entry and exit times are controlled (roughly 7-8 am to 5 pm); start early so you are back at the drop point before the gate closes.
- Private vehicles are not allowed on the forest road; only a permitted gypsy booked at Bison Lodge can take you to the trailhead.

Questions
How long is the Duchess Fall trek?
Most guides put it at about 4 km one way from the gypsy drop-off point to the base of the first cascade, so about 8 km out and back. Allow 3-4 hours including time at the fall.
Is the Duchess Fall trek difficult?
It is the most demanding waterfall walk in Pachmarhi. The path descends steeply over rocks and boulders and the return is a long climb. It is fine for fit beginners but guides advise against it for small children and elderly visitors.
Do I need a permit or guide for Duchess Fall?
Yes. The fall lies in the forest zone, so you need a day-visit permit from Bison Lodge in Pachmarhi and a permitted gypsy; private cars are not allowed. Guides say a forest guide is required for this fall. Check current fees at Bison Lodge, as we could not confirm an official rate.
What is the best time to visit Duchess Fall?
October and November give strong post-monsoon flow with a drier trail. August and September show the fall at full power, but the path is muddy and slippery. In winter and summer the water drops sharply.
Can you swim at Duchess Fall?
There are shallow pools at the base where people bathe in calm conditions, but swimming is unsafe in strong monsoon flow. Check conditions with your guide.
