₹16,800–17,080
Per person, ex-Dehradun. Only one operator publishes a price (October 2026): Himalayan Hikers ₹16,000 + 5% GST + ₹280 insurance, Dehradun to Dehradun. A second operator price could not be found. Self-guided is an estimate: bus or shared jeep Dehradun-Sankri and back, jeep to Taluka, two guesthouse nights, a local guide (the route is little used and not waymarked above Devsu), porter or mule, tent and stove hire, food for six days and Govind sanctuary entry fees.

Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Mobile signal fades after Mori; at Taluka you may get patchy BSNL signal. Expect no network on the trail.
- Last ATM
- Purola, on the road to Sankri
- Nearest hospital
- Purola and Mori for first care; Dehradun for serious cases
- Water
- Streams on the forest stretches between Taluka, Cheludgad and Devsu Bugyal; fewer on the upper ridge, so fill up at camp. Boil or treat all water.
Highlights
- A wide summit meadow at about 4,000 m with views of Swargarohini, Black Peak, Bandarpoonch, Ranglana, the Har Ki Dun valley and Borasu Pass
- Camping at Devsu Bugyal, a broad meadow near where the Ruinsara stream meets the Supin
- A quiet, little-used trail inside Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, away from the Har Ki Dun crowds
- Dense forest between Taluka and Cheludgad where langurs and Himalayan monal are often seen
Risks
- The climb from Bainya base camp to the top is steep and the summit day is long (about 10 km, 7-8 hours).
- The Sankri-Taluka road is prone to landslides and is often closed in the monsoon.
- The route is remote and little used: no mobile network, no shops beyond Taluka, and the upper trail is not marked, so go with a local guide.
- Nights near 3,500 m are cold; carry gear for sub-zero temperatures.

Questions
Where is Bainya Top and how does the trek start?
Bainya Top is a high meadow ridge in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, Uttarkashi district, on the way to Maldaru Lake. Treks start from Sankri: a jeep takes you about 11 km to Taluka, and you walk from there along the Supin valley to Cheludgad, Devsu Bugyal and Bainya base camp.
How long and how hard is the Bainya Top trek?
The one published itinerary is 8 days Dehradun to Dehradun, with about 60 km on foot over six walking days and a high point of about 4,000 m. The operator grades it moderate but says it is not for beginners because of the steep summit climb.
When is the best time for Bainya Top?
Operators list May, June, September, October and November. In the monsoon the Sankri-Taluka road is often blocked by landslides.
Do I need a permit for Bainya Top?
The route is inside Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, so forest entry fees apply; guided groups include them. We could not confirm the current official fee. Self-guided trekkers should get forest permission at the forest check post in Sankri or Taluka before starting.
