Questions
How difficult is the Mukta Top trek?
Operators grade it easy to easy-moderate and suitable for beginners with good fitness. Daily distances are 4-9 km, but the Shiladuni-Chaithathar day is steep and summit day is about 9 km with a long descent. Bikat suggests being able to run 3 km in 25-30 minutes.
What is the best time for the Mukta Top trek?
April to June and September to November give pleasant weather, flowers in spring and clear autumn views. December to March brings snow on the upper meadows but very cold nights. Avoid July and August, when monsoon rain makes the trail slippery.
How do I reach Kuflon, the base village?
Kuflon is on the Sangamchatti road beside the Assi Ganga river, about 11 km from Uttarkashi and 155-180 km (7-8 hours) from Dehradun via Uttarkashi and Gangori. Buses and shared jeeps run from Dehradun to Uttarkashi; most operators run a morning pickup from Dehradun.
How high is Mukta Top?
About 3,600 m (11,800-11,840 ft) according to Bikat Adventures, Trek The Himalayas, Himalaya Shelter and Himalayan Dream Treks.
Do I need a permit for Mukta Top?
Operators say forest permits and camping charges apply and include them in the package for Indian nationals; foreigners pay a higher fee. We could not find a current official fee, so self-guided trekkers should check with the forest office in Uttarkashi.
