Cost
Self-guided
₹1,800–4,500
With an operator
₹1,299–3,450
Per person, ex-Hosur for self-guided. The official Trek Tamil Nadu booking (₹1,299 adult, ₹899 aged 6-17, seen 17 Oct 2026) already includes a forest guide, so every walk here is guided; transport to Biligundulu is extra. Thrillophilia resells the trek at ₹1,364 (trek only). Bangalore Mountaineering Club runs it as a 13-hour day trip ex-Bengaluru at ₹3,279 + GST with tempo traveller, breakfast and lunch. The self-guided range is our estimate: the portal fee plus a taxi or bus from Hosur (buses via Anchetty/Hogenakkal are infrequent) and food.

Know before you go
Good to know
- Mobile network
- Not confirmed by our sources; Biligundulu is a remote village, so expect weak or no signal along the river.
- Last ATM
- Not confirmed; carry cash from Hosur or Denkanikottai.
- Nearest hospital
- Natrampalayam Primary Health Centre (about 5 km); Hosur for serious cases
- Water
- The Cauvery runs beside the whole trail, but bathing is prohibited and river water should not be drunk untreated. Carry at least 3 litres per person.
Highlights
- Walking the whole way beside the Cauvery, which forms the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border here
- Dry deciduous scrub with acacia, tamarind and arjuna trees on a red-earth trail
- Good birding: grey hornbills, fish eagles, river terns and wagtails along the banks
- Turn-around at the Rasimanal forest camp shed on the river's sandbanks
- Official Trek Tamil Nadu trail with a forest guide, close to Hogenakkal Falls
Risks
- Wild elephants, gaur and crocodiles live in this part of the Cauvery valley (Trek Tamil Nadu); stay with the guide and do not enter the river - bathing is prohibited.
- The valley is hot and dry; the return leg in late morning is tiring. Start early and carry electrolytes.
- Indiahikes says the area is closed in March and April because of forest-fire risk; other sources do not confirm this, so check the portal for dates before you plan a summer trek.
- Trekking in Tamil Nadu forests is allowed only through the official Trek Tamil Nadu booking; going in without it is not permitted.
- The trail continues beyond Rasimanal to Ugeniyam (about 18.5 km one way) over big boulders; this section is not part of the bookable trek.

Questions
How long is the Biligundulu - Rasimanal trek?
The official Trek Tamil Nadu trail is 14 km out and back (7 km each way) and takes about 5 hours. Indiahikes, which documented an overnight version with a riverside camp, gives about 8 km each way.
Can I do the Biligundlu Cauvery River trek on my own?
No. It lies in a protected forest in Krishnagiri district, and trekking is allowed only through the Tamil Nadu Forest Department's Trek Tamil Nadu booking, which includes a forest guide. Indiahikes also says you need permits to enter the restricted parts of the sanctuary.
How do I reach Biligundulu?
Take a train or bus to Hosur (about 45 km from Bengaluru), then drive about 80 km to Biligundulu. Some buses run from Anchetty or Hogenakkal, but timings are irregular, so most trekkers hire a vehicle. The trek reports at the Biligundulu guard-watcher quarters.
What is the best time for the trek?
Indiahikes recommends September to February, when the valley is green and the weather pleasant. March and April are hot (33-34 °C afternoons), and Indiahikes says the area is closed then because of fire risk.
Is it suitable for children and beginners?
The portal sells tickets for ages 6 and up, and Indiahikes rates the trail easy and suitable for all ages. Bangalore Mountaineering Club rates it moderate and does not recommend it for first-time trekkers because 14 km in the heat is tiring.
